For more than 10 years a "slow war" is going on in Algeria. A war without battlefields, but with more than 100.000 people killed. It is the wilderness that Zina and Kamel - two youngsters, bewildered and merry, gloomy and undisturbed - want to traverse for the last time, before leaving.

Todor is a small-time smuggler of cigarettes, working from the harbour of Trieste. One day he reluctantly accepts a commission to transport an unusually large crate. Too late, he discovers that it contains the body of a young woman, drugged and unconscious. Todor makes the fateful decision not to fulfil the delivery and instead to protect the human cargo who will end up capsizing his life.

Against a volatile backdrop of social unrest and simmering political reform, two young lovers play out their complex, erotic, love/ hate relationship.
